About Mcptoon
Mcptoon is an open-source MCP command-line client that lets AI agents call large local tool catalogs without loading every MCP server schema into the model context window. It lazy-loads servers, compresses tool listings and results, and gives Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and other shell-capable agents a portable MCP toolbox.
Pros
- Lazy-loaded MCP server calls so unused tool schemas do not enter the model context
- Compact TOON and SLIM output modes that reduce tool-result tokens versus JSON
- Local tool registry that works across shell-capable agents without per-agent MCP config files
- Add servers from npm, pip, HTTP, and SSE endpoints with simple CLI commands
- Prompt-injection guardrails, credential leak detection, and dangerous-operation blocking
- Zero bundled MCP servers and zero runtime dependencies for a small auditable CLI
