Question: What is Mental time travel?
Answer: A mental time travel scenario occurs in a person’s mind, as in a thought experiment. A person mentally travels back in time to a past event that occurred to the person, but it doesn’t matter if the past event is an actual event or just a mental projection. The person is still in the present, and can still experience the event. Mental time travel scenarios are used to study the nature of reality, to understand how it is that humans perceive time. In particular, this can be done by examining what happens if a person mentally travels back in time, in an event that is actually experienced by the person.
